Corporate Leadership Score: The Best Companies For Future Leaders

Time magazine and the data company Statista analyzed the resumes of 2000 top American scholars, politicians, and CEOs of large companies. They discovered that certain companies frequently appear in the career paths of these leaders. This ranking of companies best suited for future leaders excludes work experience in government, non-profit, and educational institutions, focusing instead on the influence of the private sector.

In the rankings, McKinsey holds the top spot with a perfect leadership score of 100, followed by General Electric with 99, showcasing their exceptional performance in leadership development. IBM (96) and Procter & Gamble (95) are known for cultivating leadership talents in their respective fields. PricewaterhouseCoopers also ranks high with a score of 95, while companies like Accenture, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, Bank of America, and Ernst & Young also make the list with scores near or above 90. These companies provide a strong learning platform through their excellent training and development programs, driving industry innovation and professional growth globally, making them the top choice for those aspiring to reach the pinnacle of their careers.

Companies in the consulting, technology, and finance sectors occupy significant positions. Bernard Banks, Associate Dean of Leadership Development and Inclusion at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, mentioned that these companies emphasize cultivating people's leadership skills and support this focus with resources. Employees in these companies also have the opportunity to interact with leaders in various fields, which is extremely beneficial for tackling big issues, like learning how to defeat competitors, and building exclusive networks in top companies.

But what makes some people go far in their careers, while others reach the pinnacle? Banks believes that the choice of company early in one's career may hint at whether a person is willing to be a 'big fish in a big pond' and compete with talented individuals. They inherently have the desire to be leaders, enjoy challenges, and need high levels of confidence and perseverance.
